Matt Ovenden see’s results on and off the ice.
Jw Training Client Matt Ovenden came to us at the start of last year with one thing in mind, to get Physically stronger and increase his fitness on the Ice, He had some bad seasons prior and he knew his fitness was the only one to blame. After we spoke about training and nutrition matt started simply eating more healthy food choices and working with us 3 times a week, we were working on pre-season conditioning and he was responding really well to the training. After 3-4 months of hard work it was time for the season to begin and matt and ourselves decided that our training would be at a much lower intensity from then on, for those of you that dont know, even as a semi-professional ice hockey player you train twice a week and play 2 games a weekend, every weekend! and the season does not finish until march of the following year.
While we are writing this Matt is currently in the playoffs with his club and they are looking to become southerm champions! it comes as no suprise that matt has had the best season of his career this year racking up 22 points in just 25 games! if you compare this to previous seasons where he has never managed such a point tally in so little games.

Now One thing we have not mentioned is Matt’s diet plan changes that we made at the start of 2010, Matt said he wanted to shed any un-needad bodyfat as it was slowing him down on the ice, We put matt on the ketogenic diet plan, in short the ketoganic diet plan is where your body uses fat as its primary energy source and not carbs- for all you people thinking this is not ideal for an athlete let me tell you matt can vouch for having more energy tha hes ever felt in his life! let alone his hockey career! and lets not forget that healthy fat has 9 calories of energy per gram, huge compared to carbs which has only 4 calories per gram. We also gave matt two carb days per week to restore his glycogen so he could preform in the gym and on the ice, anyway enough babble from us lets hear what Matt had to say about the ketogenic plan-

This week I caught up with Ice hockey player and Jw training client Matt Ovenden to get his thoughts on his dramatic weight loss results and how he felt about his diet plan so far.
“My experience of doing the ketosis diet”
“I have been on the ketogenic diet for only 5 weeks now and I started off with 22% body fat and weighing in at 15.8 stone. I am now at 12% body fat and weighing in at 13.12 stone, and I still have 7 weeks left on the plan!
You will see dramatic changes in your body in a short period of time and will see a visible difference within weeks of starting. The good thing about this diet is that you can retain muscle and lose fat, seeing your muscles getting leaner and leaner and looking harder, instead of looking soft and doughy.
I feel being on this diet that I have gained a lot more energy throughout the day, I can get on with my daily tasks which before was a struggle as I would feel lazy and tired all the time. This diet at first glance may look really tough and scare a lot of people away, but I must say that its not that bad once you get into it, When I started the diet I had to plan out the date when I would start and plan what time would be the best time to start, If you have events coming up such as holiday planned, family meals or meetings through work, you need to plan around that and I would suggest to start the diet after that. This diet will teach you a lot about yourself as it takes a lot of discipline and drive to get what you want out of it. There are temptations everyday and every hour ,but you need to be strong and hold back those cravings, what I do is look in the mirror or at an old picture and see what results I have achieved use that to inspire me. It’s a true saying ‘you are what you eat’, the harder you work the better the results.
I highly recommend this diet to anyone as it works- no way around it, no fads, no bullshit, it just works- its perfect for getting in shape for summer and the support you get from the trainer is unconditional and crucial to my success.
If anyone wants to contact me about the diet im more than hapy to talk to you- I am a member of the facebook group JW Training”.
